Abstract

Gone with the Wind is one of the most popular American novels, which is written by American female writer Margaret Mitchell. The novel mainly describes the life of Scarlett who is the daughter of Tara’s master during the American Civil War. Scarlett rebellion and work hard with a pioneering spirit, unyielding spirit, showing the self consciousness of the heroine's awakening and strengthening and pursuit of self sovereignty. In the war, and after the war, Scarlett's female consciousness reflected fully reveals the nature of its perseverance, courage and strong, not easily give up. Before the war, Scarlett abandoned the traditional lady due courtesy and reserved, dare to love and hate, desperate to pursue their love, female consciousness reflected; during the war in order to survive, she abandoned the noble lady squeamish and grace, the courage to assume the duties of the protection of the family; after the war and bravely break women all the shackles, the pursuit of realization of self value. In the paper i will introduce Scarlett’s independent personality and feminine charm in details. This thesis attempts to apply independent personality and feminine charm to the study of the heroine Scarlett’s value reconstruction in the book Gone with the wind by analyzing the lines of Scarlett in this book. 

This thesis offers a new insight into interpreting Scarlett’s value in the book Gone with the wind .
