A.Literature Review
Numerous academic workers are keen to explore the fairy tales and realistic significance of Le Petit Prince, which is also named The Little Prince. Many are focus on the realistic significance of the expression of each role in the story, the following are some representative arguments.
Firstly, let me introduce some background of the story. The story is through the fairy tale to express the symbolism of the real world, in order to meet the desire to describe reality. The author created many fairy tale characters in the story, such as an asteroid B612, baobab, the setting sun, roses, king, alcoholic, businessman, vain, lamp, geographers, snakes, foxes, desert, well, the little prince, pilots, etc., which are attracted many academic workers to explore.
As Qianxun Heaven “The symbolic meaning of the little prince” published in the “Foreign literature review’ express that the author extracts from life and studies long-term accumulated psychological experience with universal significance across the boundaries of time and space. And as Camus points out, "like the greatest artists, Melville built his symbol on the concrete, not on the dream material. The creation of myths has the character of genius simply because he places them in the solid reality, not in the clouds of imagination." It can conclude that the author put the fairy tale into the rich real life and let the symbol take root in reality.
Moreover, some are associate with understanding of real life, as Jia Chuangju said the book unfolds with a virtual story, reflecting our real life. That we experience our first love and meet the person who loves me. We are exposed to ideas that challenge our perceptions, even confuse us, and we sometimes get lost. We live within the system, rushing about every day without knowing what we want in order to change our life situation. When we are confused, there is always a voice in our body asking whether what I have done is worth. Through the dialogue between the soul and the mind, we find that our soul is wandering, and when the difficulty is removed (the plane is repaired in the story) and becomes busy again, the mind takes over the brain and the soul passes away (the little prince disappears in the story).
Likewise, some are expressed that the author has used the form of fairy tales and many specific symbolic significance to express the contradiction between modern society and people, heart and trample upon to people. In the fairy tale is not only filled with sincere emotion, but shine with brilliance of the philosophy, through the mocking words and symbolic metaphor, readers can appreciate the author sober reason and the evil forces destroyed the world of hatred and disappointment to the absurd reality society. And attacked the defective values in real life and tried to defend the true homeland of human beings in spirit. Through the sublimation of love and responsibility, the author expressed the ultimate thought of sticking to the true nature of life, yearning for warmth and pursuing the value of perfect life tirelessly.
For above, all the studies are focus on the realistic significance and meanings of the story. However, there seems to be lack of research of why author use fairy tale to tell the story and the connection between fairy tales and reality, which can help us to learn more about the story, to gradually understand life and walk back to the real world from the fairy tale world. I will introduce the fairy tale elements applied in the novel and the realistic meaning of existence, in order to further explore the relationship between fairy tale and reality and the meaning of the novel through the study of the little prince.
